Abstract

Abstract

The anonymous Bobbio grammar book, preserved in a unique fifth-century copy, is traditionally considered to be a fragment of the grammar that served as a model for the of Charisius. A close study of the work, element by element, leads to the conclusion that, rather than an accidental vestige, the grammar is a circumstantial reduction, adapted by a to his audience, which may have consisted of Greek-speaking functionaries sent to a Latin-language area. This copy would thus in fact be an original, clothed in anonymity by its intended use.
