Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This article offers a complete description of 70, 5, a manuscript which, in the past, has been dated to the early fourteenth century and, for part of its content, to the fifteenth century. The reconstruction of the various stages of its transcription and the study of its content show that all the texts were chosen by the Byzantine scholar Nicephorus Gregoras. C. M. Mazzucchi has already identified the handwriting of Nicephorus in the margins of the manuscript, but not only did Nicephorus annotate the book, he also supervised its production and even took part in its transcription. His notes and commentaries in the margins inform us of his interests, his knowledge of major works, and the history of certain texts (Appian, Dionysius of Halicarnassus). The last part of this study establishes that the manuscript was in Crete in 1464, in the scriptorium of Michael Apostolis, and that it entered the library of Lorenzo de Medici before 1491.
