Sur l’édition princeps du Commentaire sur Isaïe de Cyrille d’Alexandrie (avec édition des passages omis)

Le Commentaire sur Isaïe de Cyrille d’Alexandrie (CPG 5203) a été édité pour la première fois par Jean Aubert (Paris, 1638), qui reprend en face du grec la traduction latine de Lawrence Humphrey (Bâle, 1563). L’édition gréco-latine d’Aubert a été reproduite dans la Patrologie de Migne (PG 70). Le texte grec présente cependant plusieurs lacunes par rapport à la version latine en regard. En l’absence d’édition critique, cet article se propose, d’une part, de préciser sur quels manuscrits Aubert s’est fondé et comment il a travaillé, et d’autre part, de publier les passages omis par Aubert en s’appuyant sur l’examen de dix manuscrits.

Cyril of Alexandria’s Commentary on Isaiah (CPG 5203) has been edited for the first time by Jean Aubert (Paris, 1638), who reproduces the Latin translation by Lawrence Humphrey (Basel, 1563) next to the Greek. Aubert’s bilingual edition was reprinted in Migne’s Patrologia (PG 70). The Greek text, however, has several lacunae when compared to the Latin version in the adjacent column. For want of a critical edition, this article proposes first to identify the manuscripts on which Aubert’s text was based and describe the way in which he worked, and then to publish the passages he omitted, on the basis of ten manuscripts.
